MiCampus: a 100% unattended reception in its new residences
How a chain with more than 30 student residences in Spain and Portugal digitalises its new buildings with self check-in kiosks and presence-based energy control.
The challenge: digitalise the new residences while saving costs
MiCampus Residencias is one of the leading student residence chains in Spain and Portugal, with more than 30 residences. Its purpose: digitalise its properties as far as possible to offer residents a modern, convenient and efficient experience.
The goal: a 100% unattended reception and an energy control system in its new buildings, optimising resources and guaranteeing an efficient, technology-driven environment for residents.
A project of this scale set clear requirements for both the kiosks and the energy control:
- Robustness and reliability: in a 100% unattended environment, the kiosks must run continuously without assistance.
- Built for the outdoors: recessed kiosks able to withstand outdoor weather conditions and guarantee durability.
- Fast, simple rollout: a quick installation, repeatable across multiple residences.
- Affordable cost: the energy control system had to be economically viable for every new residence.
- Minimal maintenance: a battery-free system that significantly reduces long-term upkeep.
- Constant reliability: energy control active throughout the residents’ entire stay, without interruptions.
The solution: self check-in kiosks and Roommatik ECO
To achieve full digitalisation, MiCampus runs two Roommatik solutions across its newly built residences.
Self check-in kiosks
Every newly built residence features outdoor recessed kiosks, letting residents register and gain access to their rooms with no reception staff — autonomously and securely.
Since 2023, more than 15 kiosks have been installed in MiCampus’s new residences, giving students a modern, frictionless check-in experience.
Roommatik ECO
Unlike card-based systems, presence-based energy control automatically adjusts consumption to the room’s actual occupancy.
This improves energy efficiency and, since it runs without batteries, keeps room maintenance to a minimum.
